Lets Talk Rhizosphere!!

Hello growers and stoners :D

So ive been looking into the different types of mycorrhizal fungi inoculants and root boosters...

most of these products work on the basis of creating a dominant population of fungi or bacteria within the medium which dominants and suppresses any potential pathogen by either over populating, predating or both

But, each of these potential colonies actually can add different benefits to your medium

to list a couple;

Trichoderma is a filamentous fungus that is widely distributed in the soil, plant material, decaying vegetation, and wood. promotes a symbiotic relationship with the root zone encouraging growth. but it is commonly considered as a contaminant, Trichoderma may cause infections in presence of certain predisposing factors.

Rhizophagus irregularis is an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus used as a soil inoculant in agriculture and horticulture. is a natural and organic species of beneficial soil fungi that create a "sponge-like"

but the main take away for me is. what are we looking to promote when we inoculate? simply a clear root system of pathogens or a more balanced "natural" rhizosphere?

In my opinion when you inoculate, the bacteria and fungi are doing a couple things. One, they basically act as white blood cells like you mentioned and attack pathogens and anaerobic bacteria.
Two, the bacteria are breaking down nutrients in the substrate to make them more readily available to the plant. This is why they are necessary in organic soil grows in my opinion

I have to be honest and my knowledge of these things isn't extensive, but it's also my understanding that there are a few key types of mychorrizal which have different benefit??

I looked into extreme gardening mykos, which I'm using and it's a pure Rhizophagus irregularis. As I'm growing in coco this mycorizzal isn't ideal

So like Trichoderma deals the break down of dead root cells and creates amino acids within the rhizoshpere to encourage new root growth. And I've now started recycling my coco, so this would seem more appropriate

But then this is just 2 of the many options, most are a blend of bennys rather than a single type colony
