Mafoo’s Growth Chamber 2.0
Greetings GR420 family,
I am finally starting a construction diary for my new DIY growth chamber.
For the past 5 years I have been using an old small unit that I built out of plastic shelving units and old T12 and CFL lamps. I salvaged most of the items needed to build this first unit. It even has an old dryer blower motor for the forced air supply :) I have been using it to start seeds of any kind. Garden vegetables, culinary herbs, edible flowers, and of course... our belived cannabis. I like to use the chamber to root cuttings, flip clones to sex mothers, and harvest pollen from male clones for use in selective breeding!!!
But alas, it is finally time to upgrade to a bigger better system with a new metal shelf, higher energy efficient lighting, automatic watering, and proper climate control.
Made some progress on chamber 2.0 first shelf prototype last night. Check it out! Installed some LED panels vertically to supply lower canopy photon penetration and also a fluorescent T5 6-bulb lamp for top down light. Currently the illuminance is hovering around 400-450 micromol
Thats all for now. Cheers fam. Updates coming

This is already a work of art, I can't wait to see how it progresses

Re: Mafoo’s Growth Chamber 2.0
More progress this afternoon after grandpas birthday party :)
Figured out I could fit a 2x4 LED panel horizontally to illuminate my smaller middle shelf that Im gonna use for small plants like microgreens, lettuce, and herbs.
Altogether I have 8x 2x2 LED boards, 1x 2x4 LED board, and 1x 6-bulb T5 lamp. The LED boards kick off between 150-200 micromols evenly throughtout the grow space. The light boards are divided between 2 400 watt ballasts.
In addition I am running one 10x20 heat mat and thermometer controller at the moment. All of these items combined is only drawing ~830 watts.

Re: Mafoo’s Growth Chamber 2.0
Had I not worked for an indoor farm that hung their boards vertically and planted onto 10 foot tall A-frames, I probably would not have thought to do this :)
I was lucky enough to get the inspiration and the tech for free!
Thanks for reading and for the kind words

Re: Mafoo’s Growth Chamber 2.0
Yeah this is awesome. One odd these days I'll get some motivation as well and look into what it really takes to throw together a couple led builds. The kilowatt meter is always nice to have too.
